Types of Assessments
Neuropsychological Assessments
Neuropsychology is a specialty field in psychology that is interested in how an individual’s brain impacts their behavior, mood, and cognitive functioning. At Momentum, we understand that all brains are unique and a neuropsychological evaluation can be helpful in identifying these differences earlier in life. For example, some may have questions about learning differences, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), or how mood disorders impact one’s functioning. For some, a neuropsychological evaluation can be helpful in answering questions about their brain health following injury or insult, such as after a stroke or concussion or even identify early signs of dementia. We are here to help you get answers sooner.
Psychoeducational Assessments
Many students enjoy learning and love their school experience. However, there can be some students who struggle keeping up with their classmates for a variety of reasons. A neuropsychological evaluation can be helpful in understanding how an individual’s brain takes in school-based information, processes it, and then utilizes that learned material effectively. There may also be other barriers to learning that an evaluation can help identify, such as a learning disorder in reading (i.e., dyslexia) or even test-taking anxiety that makes a student unable to showcase their knowledge! Schools can offer similar educational evaluations for families free of charge; however, there may be situations where an independent educational evaluation (IEE) is required. Results from these evaluations can help students identify their strengths and advocate for accommodations even in college.
Diagnostic or Psychological Evaluations
At Momentum, brief diagnostic evaluations are standard of care when initiating therapy. However, there may be situations when a more thorough diagnostic or psychological evaluation is needed. Utilizing questionnaires and other assessment tools, Dr. Lee can help identify any potential emotional, behavioral, personality, or psychiatric challenges that impact an individual to live out their full potential in life. Results from this evaluation can help you and Dr. Lee create a plan to move forward.
Forensic Evaluations
Forensic psychological or neuropsychological evaluations are assessments that are utilized in legal matters. For example, attorneys may want a second opinion regarding a psychological evaluation that was completed, and in most cases, a review of such documents may be enough. On some occasions, a more thorough evaluation may be warranted. Forensic evaluations can be provided on a case by case basis. Please contact Momentum to find out about Dr. Lee’s availability.
